Planet: March MOON Dance

Go outside and stand with your face to the south. Now make an imaginary line with your arm from the eastern horizon (on your left) to the western horizon (on your right) in an arc halfway up the sky.

This path is called the ECLIPTIC and is the only part of the sky that you will see the Sun, Moon, and planets in. The ecliptic is easy to imagine this month. Just observe the three planets all lined up on the ecliptic towards the west as the Moon passes by each one from night to night.

Look at the crescent moon with binoculars on the 8th. Reddish Mars should be in the field of view with the crescent moon. On March 9th, the Moon will be near bright Jupiter and on March 10th, the Moon will be a little above Saturn. Also observe the changing phases of the Moon each night.
