Observing the Moon

Three abandoned lunar rovers still sit on the surface of the Moon near the landing sites of Apollo 15, 16, and 17. Look for these sites using binoculars during the next full moon, June 16th. Of course you can’t see the rovers, but you can see a lot of the Moon.

30 years ago, scientists designed a lightweight space aged dune buggy that could fold up like a Lunar Rovertransformer toy to fit inside the Lunar Module, (the spacecraft that landed on the Moon). There were used for exploring the Moon and carrying rocks. The missions with a lunar rover were: Apollo 15 (July 30, 1971), Apollo 16 (April 21, 1972) and the very last mission to the Moon, Apollo 17 (December 11, 1972). Maybe someday astronauts will return to the Moon and ride again.
