It's Summertime:

Summer officially happens at 3:49 p.m. on June 21st. It is called summer solstice. At this time the Sun is the highest in the sky as it gets and the daylight hours are longest.

As we travel around the Sun, the angle of light we receive changes. Right now our part of the world (North America) is pointing toward the Sun. In winter we, in the north, are pointed away from the Sun.

This has the effect of increasing the amount of energy (heat) we receive from the Sun during summer time and this amount of energy decrease during winter time.
